Miss Liberty

Some love stories don’t end. They just spin out, crash land, and echo.

I guess we flew too close to the sun
But we’ll be remembered for what we’ve done.
We almost landed a perfect 10
But we got all twisted up and went into a spin.
An epic crash landing like no one has seen
Except the long dead and maybe the queen.

Fat and happy, heads buzzing along
God I wish someone could sing me a song.
And tell me I didn’t see you walk out the door.
You had your freedom but you wanted more.
And more and more and more and more.
You took all there was until there wasn’t no more.

Flat broke and nervous, waiting for you to come home.
Sick of myself and this expensive cologne.
It can’t cover up what’s done and it’s done.
It was a helluva ride, all foolish and fun.
I’d hold on tighter next time if I could.
Knowing what I know now, I really hope that I would.
Speak up and shoot straight and speak up more,
Before I saw you walk out the door.

Miss Liberty you were to me and more
Roots and rock-n-roll to your very core.
Friendly and fierce, you loved every dance,
Everyone was in love, willing to take a chance.
But when the lights came on, we were caught off guard.
The only ones left were passed out in the yard.
You were nowhere to be found, we never wanted you more
But no one saw you when you walked out the door.

Somewhere you’re out there
Somewhere across the sea
Somewhere without me
Are you truly free?
Freedom from your past
How long can it last?
Until you’re coming home, coming home, coming home…
